I'll be back.

Dear Friends,

When we founded econair 16 years ago, we could never imagine it would one day grow into a reputable and innovative place for more than 400 flight simulator enthusiasts. Over this time, our core values and beliefs never changed. If anything, we were striving for the utmost realism experience for our deer friends.

Unfortunately, it is exactly this endeavor which, ultimately, created an environment that was no longer sustainable for us to maintain. And thus, in the past years, econair has suffered a mediocre and dull existence. Naturally, changes to our staff’s private lives have contributed to this decline as we, like everyone else too, must prioritize our lives over our hobby.

However, more than anything, it was our love for attention to detail and realism that broke the camel’s back. We had – and still have – numerous great and innovative ideas but the web programing standards in combination with the outdated engine the flight simulators at that time were running made our endeavor for realism extremely complex. In the end, a mix of technological compromises and sheer human limitations had created a level of complexity that could no longer be managed by us.

And this is the part where this whole text turns to the positive side. I still believe in the potential of econair and the concept of a fictional virtual airline pushing the boundaries of realism. The beauty of econair is that, despite being just a series of 1s and 0s, it is not bound to the limitations of real-world airlines and the associated legal constraints. Our strength lies still in the proximity to real world aviation and years of professional experience.

Current web standards in combination with the amazing possibilities that next generation flight simulators offer create an environment in which it would be possible to fulfill our ideas and standards without compromise on either side, be it what we offer to our friends or our staff’s personal lives. And this is exactly what I am planning to do. The only downside, for now, is that nobody can predict the future and I do not know which new challenges will arise before us. As you probably can read between the lines, this is not a farewell. At least not yet. Treat it more like a hiatus. There are things happening in the background and, so far, they look very promising. So, for as long as you can reach this website, econair is alive. I am sure some of you have some more questions. Please check out the FAQ for more information.

For now, I would like to thank every single friend of econair for your support and interest over the last 16 years. Regardless of the outcome, I am grateful for what we have achieved together and enjoyed the “old” econair with you guys a lot. Let’s meet some time again.

Yours Thankfully,
Chris
